David Scheinmann
Biography
David Scheinmann is a British artist working in the mediums of photography and filmmaking. Scheinmann's career has evolved from award winning cutting edge professional photographer into a contemporary artist and film director. His work explores issues of cultural identity and popular iconography. Scheinmann challenges, re-appropriates, and subverts our popular icons.
David achieved a highly successful 25 year international photography career in which he was accoladed with numerous international awards for his original and creative image making in mainly the performing arts for recording artists such as Peter Gabriel, Enya and Cher, as well as The Royal Ballet, Opera and Shakespeare companies.
During this period David’s work was exposed to millions of people with his often iconic imagery of popular consumer culture via magazines, billboards, CD album covers, film and theatre posters and books.
David is widely collected and has exhibited in museums, private galleries and art fairs across Europe, Asia and USA.
David is also part of an artistic duo called Adored&Adorned which is a collaborative portrait based project by David and Harvey B-Brown. This unique artistic duo creates photographic and mixed media collage meta-portraits. The artists recognise that today, the curated self-portrait as social media commodity has made portraiture part of the throw-away culture and in reaction to this they have been inspired to make a more considered portraits with layers upon layers of narrative. In these portraits the artists enhance the value of identity and explore issues of personal iconography. The duo create photographs which they then transform into three dimensional artworks using paints, inks, collage and sculptural techniques and then further augmented with postproduction technology. The resulting images are heightened “Meta-portraits”; much more than a traditional photographic portrait, they are passionate and inspired constructed depictions.
In the past three year the artists have undertaken amazing sessions and commissions that include: Graham Norton, Darcey Bussell, Tracy Ann Oberman, Philip Tracey, John Richmond, 2 pop singers, Chinese fashion designer Xu Zhi and the famous Bollywood actress Disha Patani. They have exhibited their unique portraits in Dallas, Italy and London. They were recently featured in Vanity Fair Art magazine. David and Harvey's limited edition photographs have sold at auctions at Sothebys and Christies for tens of thousands of pounds in support of The Terrence Higgins Trust and Women for Women International.
